GSBC students shape a bold future for community banking by exploring innovative ideas and business practices to better serve customers and local economies.
The final week of the third year of GSBC marks a distinctive phase in the student experience—one in which the majority of core coursework and the fundamentals of community bank operations are firmly established, creating space for deeper, forward-looking thought and the development of professional resiliency.
At this stage, students are intentionally exposed to the evolving forces shaping the banking industry through readiness-focused electives recommended for third-year learners, including International Economics, Energy & the Ag Industry and Maximizing Performance Through People and Teams. In parallel, BankRole: Managing to Leading challenges students in a collaborative strategic planning simulation, requiring them to guide a bank into the future while responding to complex, real-world pressures.
Together, these experiences reinforce critical leadership and decision-making skills while cultivating the resiliency needed to lead effectively in an ever-changing banking landscape.
Offered as collaborative alternatives to traditional Strategic Topic Projects, GSBC’s Signals Group and Special Interest Group project options allow students to work together around emerging issues impacting community banking. Through research, presentations and peer collaboration, participants explore real-world industry challenges while developing practical, forward-looking ideas designed to strengthen their institutions and the broader banking industry.
